Radio Kootwijk

Art

Radio Kootwijk is a mesmerizing, mystic place but its centerpiece is a building with a very down to earth purpose when it was build in 1923: to have a radio connection with Java, which was a Dutch colony at that time. Designed by Julius Luthmann in the style of the Amsterdam School of Architecture and with added art from artist Hendrik van den Einde, it has an eery and fascinating presence. It has been used in the film Mindhunters and for a good reason; both the interior and exterior leaves you in awe. It is still in use, not for its initial purpose of making a connection between the east and west, but for various events. You can visit the building on your own, but being attended with a guide. During the guided tour I tried to soak up all the amazing details but also to snap some pictures like this one. I surely come back to this amazing place.
